Resurrection Power for Victorious Living

Introduction

Happy Easter everyone! Today we celebrate the greatest event in human history, the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave. Jesus is alive today, and His resurrection ultimately released the power of the Holy Spirit into our world. Today our message is entitled “Resurrection Power for Victorious Living.”

The resurrection is a historical fact, but it is not just ancient history. Resurrection power is available to each one of us today, and we need to think about power in a practical way. Have you ever had your phone die right when you needed it the most?

Maybe it was a call from someone important, directions for a road trip, or just your alarm clock in the morning. No matter how advanced or expensive the phone is, if it doesn’t have power, it doesn’t work. A recent news title I read said that most Americans begin to panic once their phone battery hits less than 40%.

That’s how many believers are living today, they look the part and appear fine on the outside. They’ve got the right spiritual hardware, saved, forgiven, maybe even baptized, but inside the battery is drained. There’s no power, no real joy, no spiritual victory, just getting by.

But the resurrection of Jesus wasn’t just the end of the story, it was the beginning of ours. God didn’t just raise Jesus from the dead, He gave us the same power that raised Him.

Ephesians 1:19–20 (ESV) … the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead …

Resurrection power is not an invisible force, it is the person of the Holy Spirit. God desires for His Holy Spirit to not just be with us, but to fill us.

Romans 8:11 (ESV) If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

So why are so many Christians still living like they’re powerless and worn down? Still stuck in the same sin, the same fear, and the same spiritual weariness, simply surviving instead of thriving. Because we’ve forgotten where the power comes from.

Acts 1:8 (ESV) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

Acts 2:33 tells us that after Jesus rose, He ascended to heaven, received the promise of the Father, and began to pour out Spirit baptism on all who were praying and seeking the Spirit’s power. Spirit baptism is not automatic when you’re saved, it must be asked for and sought. But the Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead gives us unlimited power to carry out God’s plans for our lives.

We were never meant to power through life on our own. The resurrection was the charging station, and the Holy Spirit is the power source that keeps us going. So today we’re going to open the Word and see what it looks like to live in resurrection power for victorious living, not just on Easter Sunday, but every single day.

The Resurrection Breaks the Power of Sin

Romans 6:6 (ESV) We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

The resurrection is not just a symbol of life, it is the declaration that the old self is dead. Sin’s grip was broken the moment Jesus stepped out of the grave. When we belong to Christ, our sinful nature no longer rules our identity.

The body of sin has been rendered powerless through the cross and resurrection. We no longer have to live as slaves to what once controlled us. This truth reshapes how we see ourselves and how we live.

Romans 6:11 (ESV) So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

This is a mindset shift empowered by the Spirit, not something we accomplish through effort alone. It’s not about striving harder, it’s about believing what’s already true. We are dead to sin and alive to God through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 6:13 (ESV) Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.

This is a daily offering of ourselves to God, where the Holy Spirit enables us to say no to sin and yes to righteousness. We are now God’s instruments, and the Spirit shapes us moment by moment into people who reflect Jesus. Our lives become tools in His hands.

Romans 6:14 (ESV) For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

Grace is not just forgiveness, it is empowerment. Through the Spirit of grace, we are set free from sin’s dominion and filled with new strength to obey God from the heart. Victory over sin flows from resurrection power at work within us.

Living Free from Sin’s Control

Christ’s resurrection means that as believers, we don’t have to live in bondage to sin. Through the Holy Spirit, we have resurrection power flowing through our heart, mind, and body. Each day we can acknowledge that sin is no longer our master.

Invite the Holy Spirit to fill you and guide your decisions in every area of life. Is there a sin you’ve been excusing or tolerating that needs to be confessed and brought into the light? Share it with someone you trust and allow God’s grace to work deeply.

Walk in freedom by joining a small group and surrounding yourself with godly community. Let the Holy Spirit rewrite the story you’ve been stuck in. The resurrection gives us victory over sin when we live yielded to His power.

The Resurrection Gives Us Victory Over Fear and Death

1 Corinthians 15:54–55 (ESV) “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”

The resurrection removes death’s sting, not because we avoid suffering, but because we’ve been given a greater hope beyond the grave. The Holy Spirit reminds us that the grave is not the end. For the believer, it is simply a doorway into the presence of God.

1 Corinthians 15:57 (ESV) But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

God gives us victory over death and every fear through the risen Lord. Victory is not achieved by our effort, it is received as a gift from God. This victory is imparted by the risen Christ through the Holy Spirit who seals us and assures us that we belong to God forever.

Romans 8:11 (ESV) If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

This promise is not only about a future resurrection of our bodies, it speaks to present assurance in our lives. The indwelling Spirit gives us strength now and guarantees our eternal future. His presence brings confidence and peace.

Romans 8:38–39 (ESV) For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Fear is crushed under the weight of God’s love, whether fear in this life or fear of death. God’s love is poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. His presence within us is daily proof that we are never abandoned.

Choosing Faith Over Fear

Fear, anxiety, and worry are thieves that drain us and distract us from our purpose. Resurrection power over fear is ours through the Spirit who lives inside us. Each time fear surfaces, we can turn to Him for reassurance and truth.

This week, when anxiety rises, pause and invite the Spirit to remind you of who you are and whose you are. As believers, we are children of God, deeply loved by our Father beyond what we can comprehend. His love anchors us.

Memorize Romans 8:38–39 and speak it aloud when fear tries to take hold. Encourage others who are struggling by praying this truth over them. When fear knocks on the door of our minds, let the Spirit answer with the love of God.

The Resurrection Calls Us to Walk in Newness of Life

Romans 6:4 (ESV) We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

Water baptism illustrates our death to our old way of life and our resurrection to newness of life here and now. The resurrection isn’t the finish line, it is the starting line. The Holy Spirit now leads us into a brand-new way of living.

The old life is gone and the new has come through Christ. If you haven’t been water baptized by immersion since you believed, sign up for our next baptism in June. Baptism is obedience to Jesus and the beginning of a Spirit-filled life.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

If you’re a believer, you are in Christ, identifying with both His death and resurrection. You are a new creation, and the old you is passing away. This new life is Spirit-born, not self-produced.

Ephesians 4:22–24 (ESV) to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your
minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, God enables us to put off the old self that loved to sin and lived in fear. Through the Spirit and the Word, we are renewed in our minds so that we begin to think differently. We learn to think the thoughts of the Spirit rather than the patterns of the world.

The Spirit helps us put on the new self, which looks just like Jesus. The new self hates sin and loves righteousness and holiness. The Spirit renews our minds and equips us to live a life that reflects the character of Jesus.

Colossians 3:1–2 (ESV) If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

As believers, we have been raised with Christ, where He sits at the right hand of the Father. We are called to seek and think about the things above rather than the things of earth that pull us away from Jesus. As we grow in this focus, the Spirit reshapes our priorities and desires.

The Spirit also calls us to bring heaven to earth through His power. That is why you and I are still on this earth, to bring heaven to earth through our lives. When we pray, serve, give, and share our faith, we partner with the Spirit in His work.

When we pray for someone, we bring heaven to earth. When we share our witness, we bring heaven to earth. When we give sacrificially to the church, we bring heaven to earth through obedience and love.

Walking Daily in Resurrection Life

We were raised with Christ to live a new kind of life, but resurrection life is only possible when we walk in step with the Spirit. Each day we must ask Him to help us put off old ways of thinking and acting. Dependence on the Spirit keeps us aligned with God’s purposes.

Let the Spirit guide your speech, your schedule, and your relationships. Learn to hear His gentle voice more clearly and obey what He asks of you. As we respond in obedience, the power of resurrection life becomes visible.

Take a bold step this week by joining a ministry team, forgiving someone you have been holding back from, or sharing your testimony. Let the Spirit show the world that the resurrection is not just something we believe. It is something we live.

Conclusion

We started today with a simple picture of a phone without power. It may look fine on the outside, but without a charge it is only a shell. Many believers live this way, appearing alive but lacking spiritual power.

They are saved but not surrendered, forgiven but not walking in freedom. They are alive in Christ but still bound by fear and anxiety. That is not the life Jesus rose to give us.

Because of the resurrection, we are no longer slaves to sin and the Spirit empowers us to walk in freedom. Because of the resurrection, we do not have to live in fear, since nothing can separate us from the love of God. Because of the resurrection, we are no longer who we used to be, and the Spirit leads us into transformed lives.

The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead now lives in us. He is our source of strength, our daily guide, and our constant reminder that victory is not only possible. Victory is already ours in Christ.

So let us ask ourselves where we need to plug back into the power of the resurrection. Is it a hidden sin, a fear of what lies ahead, or an area where the old self keeps showing up? The Spirit is ready to meet us there.

Let us not just celebrate the resurrection, let us live in its power. Let us start today by asking the Holy Spirit to fill us again. Let us take steps of faith to serve, share, forgive, pray, love, and live like Jesus truly rose.
